Special birthday surprise!

Today (October 28th) Oliver turned 6! We did our best to keep him happy throughout the day.
I let him have Cracklin' Oat Bran for breakfast. (You should have seen his face light up!)
Before that, he opened up one present before Jane went to school. (Cora leaves before they even wake up.)  It was a Beyblade arena-thing with a set of two Beyblades. They are really just glorified spinning tops. He was visibly stoked.
He and Ryan played with them for quite a while as I puttered around doing various household things.

At Kindergarten, his teacher gave him a birthday crown to wear, and let him pick a prize. He chose a little car.

After school, he opened his remaining presents, then we took the family to Primos to enjoy their pizza buffet. Oliver's favorite food is pepperoni pizza.
He'd been asking to go bowling as his b-day celebration, so that is what we did.
We all had a grand time. Except I set the all-time-worldwide-record for lowest score. Ever.
I can't even share it here.

After that, we came back home for cupcakes. For some reason, Oliver requested a Spiderman cake. But he doesn't even really talk about Spidey anymore or anything. But I asked him more than once and his reply was the same, so I did what I could to grant his wish.
What I didn't have was enough time to bake and decorate a cake. But I found some red frosted cupcakes at the store and added some Spidey figures and store-bought sugar letters and called it good.

Jane had initially been disgusted with my morning announcement that we might have to pick out a premade cake. But I think everyone was fine with the end result. And I saved a boatload of time.

That's my handsome, energetic, fun, happy, sweet, persistent, huggable, wonderful birthday boy.
I love him lots and lots.

All in all, it was a great day. But, here's a major highlight.

Right before dinner Cora and Jane found something Oliver lost about two years ago.
It apparently fell out of our big blue living room chair. We can thank our lucky bunnies for it, since they are likely the reason it became dislodged. We have had to tip said chair back repeatedly in order to fetch our pets with a habit of hiding under there.

Ya wanna know what was found?

My wedding ring!

I thought I'd never see it again. I was sure that when Oliver carried it off and lost it all that time ago that he'd thrown it away or something. It had been so long that the girls didn't even recognize it. And of course Oliver was oblivious to the part he'd played in its disappearance. =/

But it's back, and I am glad about that. And Ryan can stop wondering whether or not to replace it. ;)

Happy birthday to Oliver, indeed.
